Colin Wright, Sustainable Designer

Sustainable design, illustration and web development

Let me tell you a bit about Colin Wright.

My Mission

I strive to provide design, illustration and web work that is practical, beautiful and sustainable on all levels. Each project is a problem to solve, and I make it a point of pride to solve the problem as completely, efficiently and elegantly as possible.

My Biography

I spent my early years in Northern California, moving at the age of 9 to Columbia, Missouri. I've been drawing since I could hold a crayon. In high school, I focused primarily on art and journalism; at one point taking advanced placement art courses while simultaneously working as a columnist, editorial cartoonist and Art Director for the school newspaper (and winning several awards for each position). In college, I discovered design and was fortunate enough to enter a program that was taught almost entirely by European and Asian professors, which impacted my creative development immensely.

Before graduating with a dual-emphasis BFA in Graphic Design and Illustration, I worked in three different design positions for three different companies (one multidisciplinary, one interactive/broadcast and one publication), in a print shop, and as a columnist for a local newspaper. Wanting to take it to the next level, I quit all but two of my five jobs and started up two businesses: a culture magazine and a boutique design studio. Through the magazine I learned many supplementary skills; from selling advertising to sponsoring and coordinating events to general good business practices. Through the studio I learned to always keep my paperwork in order!

After college I moved to LA to take a job with a small multidisciplinary studio, then left it a year later to start up my own one-man studio, Colin Is My Name Design. In addition to my studio, I am also involved in several other projects, including a blogging network, a young professionals group, a real estate company and a web startup in stealth mode.
