Why I Sold Everything to Travel While Working
Some people listen to Classical music. Some people go to a gallery. Some folks prefer to watch sports or have sex or eat nothing for 3 days.
Everyone has a different preferred way of getting inspired, and mine just happens to be, well…everything.
Call me gluttonous if you will, but I can honestly get a creative kick from a class on mathematics or a ravings of a schizophrenic on the street. I might see a puddle I like or I may see a poodle I don’t like. The world around me makes me happy and sad and every emotion in between, and this fluctuation in chemicals – this deviation from the norm – allows me to do what I do. Consistently. Wherever I am and with whatever I have at hand.
Knowing this, I decided to make an enormous life change not long ago.
Starting in April, I began to sell everything I owned that wouldn’t fit inside a carry-on bag. My clothing, my car, my bike, my art supplies. Everything went except the very bare minimum.
It was amazing.
At the end of August, I left LA, all of my worldly possessions in tow, and moved to Buenos Aires, Argentina. I didn’t choose this location, the readers of my blog, Exile Lifestyle did. They chose well.
Now I work from the road and it’s a dream for an inspiration-sponge like me. Everywhere I go is a new place. Everything I see is a new vision. Everyone I meet is a new personality. Everything I do is a new experience.
This is exactly what I wanted.
Some people say I’m crazy when I tell them about my new lifestyle; about running a thriving studio business while traveling to a new country every 4 months (and many in between).
I say I’d be crazy not to, because my business can only be as good as my knowledge and ideas, and by keeping my life dynamic, my work stays dynamic, as well.
